COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - One person has died following a pursuit involving the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), officials announced on Sept. 16.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop when the suspect fled in their vehicle, starting a pursuit. CCSO said that the suspect had a significant lead on the deputies, and by the time deputies caught up, they found that the vehicle had crashed.

CCSO said that one person died as a result of the crash. They also said one occupant of the vehicle was taken to the Coffee Regional Medical Center for medical attention.

Exactly where or when this crash happened was not released. It is unclear how many people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash or whether the fatality was the driver or a passenger.

CCSO said that this case is being investigated further by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
