ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Two deadly shootings in different locations in Albany are believed to be connected and likely gang-related.
According to Albany Police, 19-year-old Jamarian King was reportedly shot while walking home from the barber, and 53-year-old Patricia Duncan was shot on her own front porch. Police believe he was the intended target, but she was not.
Police reports provided vivid detail about how Duncan was killed in front of her own home on Leonard Avenue.
A witness who said she saw the whole thing told Albany police she saw a blue-colored van stop at the intersection of Leonard Avenue and Cone Street. Six people got out of the vehicle and started shooting. The witness told police the males had on masks while they were shooting and that there was a machine gun being used.
An APD investigator said there were 35 shell casings located on the scene, two .223 rounds, and 33 9mm shell casings.
“Her death is a devastating example of how senseless death can affect innocent lives. These incidents are believed to be part of a retaliatory pattern stemming from an ongoing dispute between rival groups,” Albany Police Chief Michael Persley said. “Investigators are working diligently to confirm leads, process evidence, and identify those responsible.”
Neighbors of Duncan, who were devastated by her death, want to see an end to the gun violence.
“The senseless killing got to stop somewhere because at the end of the day, she was a mother, she was a sister, she was a daughter.”
The Albany Police Department is offering a $2,000 reward for each case.
