PENNSYLVANIA (TNND) — Two Pennsylvania state troopers were shot in Susquehanna County on Thursday afternoon, according to Gov. Josh Shapiro.

Shapiro broke the news during an event in Bucks County and said he was heading to the scene after the event concluded.

"About an hour ago in Susquehanna County, two state troopers were shot. Lori and I are praying for those troopers,” he told the crowd.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, authorities are investigating after two troopers were shot while responding to a call in northeastern Susquehanna County.

"They were both transported to local hospitals," police wrote on X. "The public should avoid the incident area, located on Route 171, approximately five miles north of the town of Thompson."

Rep. Rob Bresnahan said on social media that he was "relieved to hear the troopers involved in today’s incident in Thompson Township are expected to be in stable condition."
