COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A two-week-long drug operation in Coffee County led to the arrests of eight people.
According to a release from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), it targeted illegal drug activity across Coffee County. The arrests were made by agents of the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit.
“This effort, made possible through the collaboration of the City of Douglas Police Department, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Drug Unit, continues to demonstrate effective results in combating the presence and distribution of illegal narcotics in the community,” CCSO said.
The sheriff’s office said that the operation lasted from June 18 to July 1.
The following people were arrested:
- Benjie Nelm Swain was arrested on June 18. He is being charged with possession of drug-related objects and possession of a controlled substance.
- Michael Shannon Deaton was arrested on June 19. He is being charged with possession of a controlled substance.
- Lee Demita Barfield was arrested on June 19. He is being charged with possession of a controlled substance.
- George William Butler was arrested on June 19. He is being charged with possession of a Schedule II substance (morphine) and two counts of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance (Temazepam and Lorazepam).
- Timothy Neal Williams Jr. was arrested on June 20. He is being charged with possession of a controlled substance (Hydrocodone).
- Laprince Shamon Brockington was arrested on June 21. He is being charged with possession of a controlled substance (Methamphetamine).
- Qmetee McKenzie was arrested on June 27. She is being charged with possession of crack cocaine and possession of methamphetamine.
- Milton Gainey was arrested on July 1. He is being charged with sale of a controlled substance.
Both McKenzie and Gainey were arrested as part of a lengthy investigation at the Comfort Inn and Suites, according to CCSO.
"This operation reflects the continued commitment of local law enforcement to combat illegal narcotics and ensure the safety and well-being of Coffee County residents. The Douglas Coffee Drug Unit, along with all assisting agencies, remains vigilant in targeting the distribution and possession of illegal substances throughout the community," CCSO said.
