ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff said he is bringing federal money to Southwest Georgia to expand a community clinic in East Albany and build a firefighter training center in Valdosta.

Ossoff said he secured more than $1.8 million through a bipartisan bill to expand and renovate the East Albany Medical Center.

“I am so pleased to deliver these resources to renovate and upgrade and expand the East Albany Medical Center so that residents of Albany have a great state-of-the-art clinic to serve families,” Ossoff said. “Everyone in Georgia should have access to great health care, and that’s why I’ve delivered these resources.”

Ossoff is also delivering about $845,000 for a new firefighter training facility in Valdosta.

Mayor Scott James Matheson and Fire Chief Brian Manahan requested the facility to train Valdosta firefighters, Ossoff said.

“Every fire department in Georgia should have the equipment and the facilities necessary to train to the highest standard and to protect and serve the people of our state,” Ossoff said.

The funds should be on the way imminently to upgrade health facilities in Albany and fire training facilities in Valdosta, Ossoff said.
