Description

QUITMAN, Ga. (WALB) - As of Nov. 14, three cases of distemper has been confirmed in Quitman, according to the city of Quitman.

The city is asking pet owners to take action quickly as the virus spreads fast and can be deadly to unvaccinated pets.

In order to protect your pets, the city suggests:

  • Getting pets vaccinated immediately
  • Keep pets away from wildlife and stray animals
  • Watch for the following symptoms: coughing, sneezing, fever, eye and/or nose discharge, vomiting and seizures
  • Contact your vet immediately if your pet seems “off” in any way

The city urges people to avoid:

  • Letting pets roam freely outdoors
  • Handling sick or abnormal wildlife. Call animal control immediately.
  • Assume pets are protected. Check your animal’s vaccination status as soon as possible.
