Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - There have been three shootings this week in the same neighborhood, mostly involving minors.
On Thursday, Aug. 29, in the 900 block of Willow Wood Drive, there were shots fired at two individuals outside the residence. Police say no injuries were reported.
A 16-year-old was charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of a Firearm Under the Age of 18.
A 17-year-old was charged with Possession of a Firearm Under the Age of 18.
This is the third shooting at this apartment complex.
Police say that early Monday morning, they were called to a home where a 12-year-old was shot on the front porch by a man wearing a ski mask. Fast forward to Wednesday, police were called to the 900 block of Willow Wood Drive, just a block away, where they found a 16-year-old shot in the leg while walking into his home.
When WALB arrived on scene on Thursday, we saw police serving a search warrant at a home. Some neighbors said this feels a little too close for comfort and believe the violence may be tied to gang disputes or retaliation. One neighbor even said that she’s considering moving away.
“We need to get these people off the streets and stop allowing kids to buy and purchase guns. We should do better on the laws that are out now,” she said. “They say anybody can purchase guns, and it should go back to what it was.”
WALB reached out to Albany Police for a statement. While they did not confirm whether these incidents are connected, they said that all of them remain under investigation.
