ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — As the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks approaches, a call to action has been issued for volunteers to honor the first responders who died on that tragic day.

The 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance aims to gather volunteers to Marietta National Cemetery on Sept. 12 to clean and restore the gravesites and headstones of the heroes killed in the attacks.

The event is being put on by the nonprofit organization, Carry the Load, alongside partnership G.E.H.A. ((Government Employees Health Association)) and the National Cemetery Administration.

This nationwide one-day event is an opportunity to show appreciation to those who paid the ultimate price as well as beautify the nation’s places of rest.
