TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) received the top ranking for best dorms in Georgia for the second consecutive year, according to a student survey by Niche.

The survey awarded ABAC an “A” rating and a number one ranking for best Georgia dorms for 2026. The organization considered student feedback, safety information, affordability and the overall on-campus living experience.

ABAC leaders said they originally constructed their residence halls with long-term growth in mind.

“ABAC is building on an incredibly strong foundation from when our current residence halls were constructed in the mid-2000’s. There were some incredible visionaries at the time that were thinking long-term about ABAC’s needs, so we’re really thankful that we have incredible facilities to work with,” said Trent Hester, director of residence life and housing.

The college plans to make additional improvements to its residence halls over the next two years, upgrading shared spaces and updating flooring.

But there are also immediate plans for some upgrades this summer.

“We’re getting new paint, new air condition units. There’s going to be a lot of changes made this summer— just in general, to the look and feel of the residence halls. So, we’re focusing primarily on one of our upperclassman buildings and one of our freshman residence halls this summer,” Hester said.

ABAC leaders said they made it a goal to provide living spaces that are modernized and affordable while offering safety and convenience for students.

“When it comes to building community on campus, we spend lots of time investing in the students who choose to live on campus,” Hester said.

Mia McGurl, a senior at ABAC who lived on campus all four years, said the residence halls offer more than just a place to sleep.

“The complete housing department as a whole— they do so much more than just make sure we have good dorms. They put on fun events for us every semester. And all of the resident assistants that live on campus with us put on events every single month that help us meet new people and engage on campus. It’s much more than just a place we lay our heads down at night, and I’ve thoroughly gotten to enjoy that for the past four years. And I obviously didn’t move off campus, so I had a lot of fun,” McGurl said.
