Description
SOUTH GEORGIA. (WALB) - A dangerous high-speed pursuit involving a stolen yellow box truck from Cordele, ended safely Tuesday after multiple law enforcement agencies worked together to stop the suspect on Interstate 75.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies spotted the stolen truck near Pio Nono Avenue and Rocky Creek Road before the driver fled, leading officers on a reckless chase. Authorities said the suspect drove aggressively on I-75, weaving through traffic and attempting to ram several patrol vehicles.
The pursuit continued into Monroe County, where deputies and assisting agencies made several attempts to stop the truck using spike strips and PIT maneuvers. Even after the vehicle sustained heavy damage, the driver continued fleeing.
With help from the Georgia State Patrol, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and Georgia Department of Public Safety Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, deputies were able to disable the truck and pin it against a guardrail near Rumble Road on I-75.
The driver, identified as Darryl Leon Singletary of Warner Robins, was taken into custody after refusing commands from deputies. Authorities said he was also found armed with a knife and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Singletary now faces multiple charges.
Officials said several patrol vehicles were damaged during the incident, but no deputies or citizens were injured.
