Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Law enforcement and first responders in Albany traded in their uniforms for jerseys for a good cause.
Multiple agencies came together for a community softball tournament aimed at building stronger relationships both on and off the field.

The Albany Police Department hosted the tournament, bringing together local agencies including the Albany Fire Department, Georgia State Patrol and the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office. The event gave first responders a chance to engage with the community in a more relaxed setting, while also strengthening bonds between agencies that work side by side every day.
Organizers say events like this help break down barriers and show a different side of the people behind the badge. It also helps agencies connect with one another, as they are constantly working together and supporting each other in the line of duty.
“It’s important to let the community let them know that we’re here,” said Cpl. Donovious Hunt with the Albany Police Department. “It’s also a good thing for us to interact with each other, because we work side by side with different agencies. So we want to know the person you need to go help or you want to come help you. So it’s a good thing.”
The Albany Fire Department took home the win. Organizers say the real victory was the opportunity to bring the community together, strengthen relationships and build trust with the people they serve.
