ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The city of Albany hosted its 35th Annual Celebration of Lights Christmas Parade downtown Sunday night after a brief rain delay.
The city spent months preparing for the annual event. Mayor Bo Dorough said he was glad to see the community come together for the celebration.
“Well it’s inspiring and also uplifting you know we have troubles we deal with all throughout the year but I think coming together particularly in the Christmas season it’s just a great time of year and it’s good to be with people and it’s good to be in the community,” Dorough said.
Downtown Albany was covered in Christmas decorations, including decorated people, cars and an ambulance. Kris Thomas attended with her daughter Kaydence.
“It’s cool and pretty and the parade is gonna be really cool and pretty and festive and so we are going to enjoy tonight at the parade seeing all the holiday spirit out here and just coming together as a community and I hope everybody enjoys Christmas and Merry Christmas,” Thomas said.
The celebration included activities throughout the day leading up to the parade, including a Christmas village with vendors from across Albany. Local vendor Crystal Bracy said she was glad to see the community unite for the event.
“It really makes me feel real good because we all can come together as one, we all can be on the same team. It makes me feel real good because we all can come together as one as a community and we all make it seem like we just all on the same page because we’re all here to support Albany,” Bracy said.
The parade gave families and the broader community a chance to connect during the holiday season.
