Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Albany Police Department is investigating after the storefront window of NextShift STEM Lab in downtown Albany was vandalized Saturday morning.
According to Albany police, officers responded to 202 W. Broad Ave. regarding a Criminal Damage to Property in the Second Degree incident after an officer noticed damage to the front window while driving by the business.
Additional officers responded to the scene and cleared the interior of the building. Police said no individuals were found inside.
A key holder later arrived at the scene and advised officers that no items appeared to be missing from the business.
In a Facebook post, leaders with NextShift STEM Lab said they were awakened around 7 a.m. after police were unable to reach them because their phone was on “Do Not Disturb.”
The organization said the shattered storefront window was heartbreaking to see because the lab was created to provide children with hands-on STEM learning opportunities, academic support, creativity and innovation in downtown Albany.
“We are disappointed, but definitely not defeated,” the post stated.
The organization said repairs and additional security measures are already underway so students can continue learning without interruption.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Albany Police Department.
