ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany State University’s (ASU) homecoming week is well underway, as everyone celebrated at Food Truck Frenzy today.
Vendors from all around Albany were present today for this event. Food, drinks and even apparel were available for purchase. There were also tables and seating for people to enjoy their food.
One spectator expressed his happiness at experiencing something different in Albany.
“You need a spark sometimes to get things going in the right direction, and this is a start,” Lorenzo Thomas said.
ASU collaborated with Downtown Albany to organize the event.
Downtown Albany Manager Lequrica Gaskins emphasized the city’s importance in coming together to support the work of ASU, its students and alumni.
“Albany State University is a huge engine in terms of economic development within our downtown area. So, we are glad to be just a little part of it and understand the importance of it in town,” Gaskins said.
This week, the messages surrounding homecoming have focused on safety. Local alumni want to remind people there much more to it than that.
“Albany is not all that they hear; it is actually what you see — it’s the camaraderie. And so, we are glad to be a part of it,” one alumni said.
ASU’s homecoming weekend isn’t just a school event. It’s a huge event for the city — hotels and restaurants are expected to be packed. Police said you will see increased security at big events. Everyone is hoping this weekend Albany lives up to its nickname — “the Good Life City.”
