ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A fatal traffic collision occurred Monday, Jan. 26 at the intersection of Leary Road and Old Pretoria Road when a Toyota Siena failed to yield at a stop sign, resulting in a crash with a Freightliner semi-truck. The collision claimed the life of Joseph Powell, 62.

According to the incident report, a Toyota Siena was traveling northwest in the intersection of Leary Road and Old Pretoria Road when it failed to yield after stopping at a stop sign. The vehicle was struck by the Freightliner semi-truck’s front bumper. Following impact, the Siena continued to travel approximately 145.2 feet northwest onto the south shoulder before coming to rest, officials said.

The Freightliner semi-truck was traveling west when the collision occurred, according to the incident report. The impact reportedly struck the Siena on its front and back doors. After striking the Siena, the semi-truck continued to travel approximately 115.6 feet west onto the north shoulder to its final resting position, officials said.

Powell was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the collision, officials confirmed. He was identified by Coroner Michael Fowler.

No charges have been filed at this time, according to the incident report. The investigation remains ongoing.
