Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A new hauling and logistics company is launching in Albany, adding to an industry that supports construction projects, infrastructure work and economic development across South Georgia.

Shipp’s Logistics & Hauling celebrated its opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 2, hosted by the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce. The company will provide services including hauling gravel, sand and construction debris, as well as site cleanup and transportation support.

Founder Shondae Shipp said the business was inspired by her father’s construction company and a family history of entrepreneurship.

“I wanted to create a business that he can be proud of,” Shipp said. “I wanted to show him how his hard work, integrity and diligence inspired me.”

Her father, Rickey Shipp, said the new company revives a service his construction business once offered.

“What my daughter’s doing, we had the dump truck service at one time,” he said. “We’re bringing it back, and she’s going to be in charge of that part of the business.”

Rickey Shipp said hauling services help support development projects throughout the region by transporting materials used in road construction, commercial projects and other infrastructure work.

“We are basically helping build the infrastructure of this area with the dump truck service,” he said.

Chamber officials said new businesses like Shipp’s Logistics & Hauling contribute to the local economy by creating opportunities and meeting community needs.

“We have such an appreciation for Ms. Shipp doing this in Albany and Southwest Georgia,” Mary Bickerstaff, from the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce, said.

The launch also places Shipp in a field where women remain underrepresented. According to the Women In Trucking Association, women account for about 12% of commercial truck drivers nationwide.

Shipp said she hopes her success encourages other women to pursue careers in industries traditionally dominated by men.

“I would just say you can do anything,” she said. “Women can do it as well.”

The company is beginning operations with hauling and logistics services for contractors, businesses and property owners throughout the region.
