ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - [UPDATE: 5/27 @ 11:05 a.m.] - The Albany Police Department (APD) has released new details in the Memorial Day shooting standoff.

Al’Wahhaab Galbert was arrested on May 25, 2026, after allegedly shooting a victim during an argument.

Galbert has been charged with:

• Aggravated Assault
• Possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime
• Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

[UPDATE: 5/25 @5:10 p.m.] According to the Albany Police Department, the suspect has been captured and taken into custody.

[ORIGINAL ARTICLE: 5/25 @3:44 p.m.] There is an active scene in the 1900 block of West Gordon Avenue in Albany, where a shooting suspect has barricaded himself in an apartment, according to the Albany Police Department (APD).

Police said they were originally called to the scene around 2:13 p.m. for a “dispute” between two men.

One of the men was shot in the hip and taken to the hospital. APD said the shooting victim is in stable condition.

Officials say that the suspect then barricaded himself inside an apartment.

“The Albany-Dougherty SWAT Team and Negotiations Team are on the scene in an effort to safely take the suspect into custody. The Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office and Dougherty County Police Department also is assisting Albany Police Department officers at the location.”

Residents in the area should use caution, as the area is blocked off to traffic.
