Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Albany Police Department said a two-day traffic enforcement effort in early May led to hundreds of traffic stops, more than 100 citations, and multiple arrests, including DUI and drug cases.
APD’s Traffic Unit conducted the “Blue Lights Blitz” on May 7–8. Police said the detail was aimed at enhancing roadway safety, increasing officer visibility, and ensuring compliance with traffic laws.
During the operation, officers conducted 264 traffic stops, resulting in 113 citations and 179 warnings, according to APD. Police said the detail also led to 18 arrests and the location of five wanted people.
APD said officers made nine DUI arrests, issued two open container citations, opened five drug cases, and seized three firearms.
In addition, police said 11 warrants were issued, with more expected from the Albany-Dougherty Special Investigations Unit (ADSIU). APD did not release additional details about the arrests or firearms seized.
“We want citizens to know that they are safe, we are out in the streets,” Deputy Chief, Wendy Luster, said. “We are trying to do everything we can to reduce crime. We are grateful to have all the agencies joining us for this operation and we will continue our efforts this summer and throughout the year.”
