GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) - After an hours-long search that began Wednesday afternoon in Grady County, a man considered “armed and dangerous” is now in custody and in critical condition, according to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office.

In a social media post just after 2 a.m. Thursday, GCSO announced that William Shane Allen was taken into custody and was no longer considered a threat to the public.

GCSO Sheriff Early Prince told WCTV Thursday morning that the suspect’s charges are pending.

“There are several felony charges against him right now and we’re waiting to see how the investigation goes so we can make sure that we have all the charges covered,” Prince said.

Allen is accused of repeatedly ramming a woman’s vehicle Wednesday afternoon before shooting her once in the shoulder while both were inside, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said he then fled on foot, prompting a manhunt involving 10 agencies that continued overnight Thursday.

The manhunt Wednesday prompted authorities to urge residents in the Spence Community to avoid Stagecoach and Macedonia Church roads while emergency crews worked.

Around 1 a.m. Thursday, GCSO told WCTV that an anonymous caller reported seeing Allen walking on Macedonia Church Road. Moments later, the U.S. Marshals and various other local sheriff’s offices all deployed drones in that area.

Shortly after, GCSO said Allen was spotted at the scene and seen coming out of the edge of a field with his gun raised at officers.

Grady County deputies then fired shots, hitting Allen two or three times, according to Sheriff Prince.

As a result, Allen is in critical condition at a hospital as of Thursday morning.

No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident, according to GCSO.
