ARLINGTON COUNTY, Va. (7News) — The Army has put a pause on helicopter flights near Reagan National Airport (DCA) after two planes got "go-around" commands due to a Black Hawk en route to the helicopter with a "Priority Air Transport."
The commander of the 12th Aviation Battalion directed the unit to pause helicopter flight operations after the two aborted landings on Thursday.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released the following statement about the incident that is still under investigation the incident by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB):
Air traffic control instructed Delta Air lines Flight 1671 and Republic Airways Flight 5825 to perform go-arounds at the Reagan Washington National Airport due to a Priority Air Transport helicopter inbound to the Pentagon Army Heliport. The FAA is investigating the event that occurred around 2:30 p.m. local time on Thursday, May 1.

7News spoke with frequent DCA traveler Kyle Olson about the pause.
"You’ve gotta be conscious of where you’re putting those birds in this atmosphere," Olson said.
Reporter Lianna Golden asked, "Do you think this ban should’ve come sooner?"
"I was a little surprised that they didn’t shut it all down right away, right after the accident," Olson replied.
Three more flights had to abort landings at DCA on Sunday due to another helicopter's presence, but this time it was police on an urgent mission, one of the FAA's exceptions under new regulations.

"I think that it’s not impossible for the two to coexist, for military helicopter flights and commercial flights to coexist, but at the same time, you gotta ask yourself, is this necessarily the best way to have transportation working its way around the Capital?" Olson said.
