Description

DOUGLAS, Ga. (WALB) — An Army soldier was reportedly arrested Friday, May 15, following an investigation by the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) into alleged sexual misconduct against multiple victims.

Tyrone Barry Carter, Jr., 26, was detained at Fort Stewart, near Savannah, before being taken to the Coffee County Jail, CCSO said.

Officials said Carter, who is from Douglas, was charged with aggravated child molestation after multiple victims reported nonconsensual sexual contact by Carter during their childhood.

This comes after CCSO responded to sexual assault reports at a Douglas residence in February, officials said. Victims said that the alleged sexual assaults occurred between 2017 and 2026, according to the sheriff’s office.

The exact number of the victims was not released. Their exact ages are also unclear.

Detectives reportedly established probable cause to charge Carter, and they coordinated with Fort Stewart personnel to detain him.

Officials said the investigation is active and ongoing. CCSO said that anyone with information about this case, or anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Carter’s, is encouraged to contact CCSO at 912-384-4227.
