ATKINSON COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Atkinson County leaders and residents are working toward establishing a local Chamber of Commerce—something community members say the county has gone without for decades.

An organizational meeting for the Atkinson County Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at Willacoochee Christian Church Social Hall, located at 69 N. Vickers Street in Willacoochee.

The effort aims to energize and support local businesses, promote economic development, and give Atkinson County a unified voice for growth. Community members say having a dedicated chamber could help attract new opportunities while strengthening existing businesses.

Atkinson County chairman says, “This is something needed in our community for growth.”

Historical records show that Atkinson County previously had a chamber in the early to mid-1900s, but the organization has not been active for many years. Organizers say this new effort is about rebuilding that foundation and positioning the county to reach its fullest potential.
