ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) will mark the end of an era on Dec. 31.
The publisher announced Thursday that the organization plans to cease production of its printed newspaper after 157 years. The AJC will transition to a digital-only model in 2026.
“The entire news industry is being upended by rapidly evolving technology and consumer behavior,” AJC President and Publisher Andrew Morse said. “We knew this day would come and have been planning for it. Many more people engage with our digital platforms and products today than with our print edition, and that shift is only accelerating. Fully embracing our digital future will ensure our investment in distinctive journalism will have the greatest impact for years to come.”
The AJC’s parent company, Cox Enterprises, bought the Atlanta Journal in 1939 and the Constitution in 1950. The two papers merged under the same masthead in 2001.
