BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WALB) - Community members in Bainbridge held an autism walk Saturday in support of those affected by autism.
Ambrica Johnson, founder of Families First Foundation, partnered with the Bainbridge Decatur County Recreation Authority for the first Autism Walk for Inclusion.
“It’s important that persons with different abilities are seen, heard, felt, and loved everyday”. Today is about not only Autism awareness but inclusion. Parents had a chance to connect with therapists while their kiddos had fun! As long as we keep the bridge between community and families connected, we can make meaningful change”.
The walk was held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 18, at the Bill Reynolds Complex 3.
Johnson said the event gave many members of the Bainbridge community a chance to speak with specialists regarding autism.
Autism awareness is close to my heart, shaped significantly by my personal relationships with individuals on the spectrum. These connections have deepened my understanding of the unique strengths and abilities that people with autism possess. From a recreational standpoint, we are excited to introduce programs designed to foster inclusion and acceptance, promoting a supportive environment where everyone can thrive together. It’s essential to build bridges of understanding and celebrate the diversity that enriches our communities.
During the event, children were able to participate in face painting and other activities. The event was open to the community free of charge.
