The balloon release will be held at the Dougherty Comprehensive High School football field on May 24 at 7 p.m., hosted by DCHS’ Class of 2024. The class asks attendees to bring their own pink or white balloons if possible, as there will be a limited number of balloons available.

Alicia Cunningham, 20, lost her life during a crash at the intersection of Liberty Expressway SE and Nelms Road near the Dollar General. Her car, a 2025 Toyota Corolla, was struck by a dump truck.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Cunningham was driving westbound on Nelms Road and attempted to cross the expressway. Officials said she failed to yield the right of way and was hit.
