ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — The Bill Miller recreational gym has opened a museum exhibit this month to celebrate Black History Month and teach young people about notable Black figures and local leaders.
The gym’s exhibit features prominent Black figures, including local leaders who have made history in Georgia and Albany. Gym Supervisor Dexter Miller said he wanted to educate kids and families about their hometown heroes.
“There’s a lot of kids that really don’t know where some of these people that’s in the NBA or NFL, or in baseball— that some of them came from Albany,” Miller said. “If they got in their dream, they got to work hard to get it, to get there. And like I always tell folks, I always look at this wall of fame that we made, and I think about where I came from. And that’s the point— where they can get wherever they need to be at.”
The exhibit will be open Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. for the month of February.
