(Feb. 28, 2026) — The Brookwood Warriors trailed St. Andrew’s by five at halftime but dominated the second half to claim the 3A state championship 61-46, avenging a title game loss to St. Andrew’s one year ago. It is Brookwood’s first state title since 2008.
Brookwood found itself down 27-22 at the break before turning to a physical inside game in the final 16 minutes. Senior Roscoe Jones, who scored just two points in the first half, finished with 12 in the second to help the Warriors retake the lead.
Warriors pull away in second half
Levi Williams added seven points in the final two quarters, including a spin fadeaway baseline jumper at the end of the third quarter. Harrison Chapara capped the rally on a cut pass from Jones, and Brookwood pulled away to claim the championship.
“We had to kill. We knew if we went at 23, that would be out of the game. So we had to kill. And I can just give nothing but thanks and glory to God, man. Without him, we wouldn’t be here,” Jones said.
“We’ve been playing together since we were like in fifth grade. Our brotherhood is what got us over the hump. I mean, honestly, I wouldn’t rather do it with anybody else in the world. I love these guys,” Williams said.
Coach VanDuyne reflects on second-half turnaround
“We just had to keep composure and we just had to believe. When we played hard, when we played together, we got the things that we wanted to get. And that’s what got us this championship,” Jordyn Jean said.
Coach Nate VanDuyne credited the team’s ability to reset after a first half that did not go as planned.
“Ultimately, we didn’t play at all how we wanted to. So it was more just a challenge to get back to who we are. And they did nothing but that. We became the aggressor in the second half and it showed,” VanDuyne said. “I couldn’t be more proud of these guys. When everybody is seeking their own glory, to see guys put it aside for the sake of the team — it’s a special thing. This group will never be forgotten by me. This has been a truly special journey.”
