SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office assisted U.S .Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, better known as ICE, with several arrests Friday.

The sheriff’s office said ICE agents were in the Statesboro area Friday and the sheriff’s office assisted ICE with multiple traffic stops.

Those stops took place Friday morning.

Deputies said fewer than 10 people were arrested.

The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office said everyone arrested in the traffic stops Friday were then sent to Savannah.

That’s also where an unrelated protest on immigration took place tonight along Quacco Road. People say they gathered to show support and denounce ICE arrests happening all over the country.

Chants “we are here, we’re not leaving” as people lined Quacco Road with painted signs and Hispanic flags.

Alex Morales-Boralles said he first started walking alone, with his sign, along Quacco Road last week.

This week he expected to continue his solo protest.

He said he wasn’t going to turn people away from joining what he said in an important cause.

“Our community is very hard working, and you cant judge an entire race off of one or two idiots,” he says.

Morales-Boralles said he coordinated Friday’s protest after seeing raids in Tallahassee earlier this week.

“That one really hit home, because I was actually working right there across the street, so I know the kind of people that are out there,” he recalls his time working in Florida and interacting with some of those who have been detained by ICE.

We were the first to tell him about the arrests a little closer to home in Bulloch County.

Signs with messages like keep ICE out of Savannah, and pleas to protect workers.

It was a small protest that folks hope will inspire change.

The organizer said he didn’t ask others to join him originally because he wanted to keep others safe.

He said the fact that his community has shown up for him in support only fuels the fire he has to keep demanding change.
