Description
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — DeKalb County Jail inmates won’t have hot water over the weekend, the sheriff’s office said.
At around 9 p.m. Friday, a pipe burst inside the facility, damaging the hot water boiler. The outage mostly impacts the housing units, although cold water is available.
Repairs are scheduled for Monday. Meal service and medical care aren’t affected, as the kitchen and medical unit have a separate water heating system, deputies said.
“The reality is we are operating an aging facility that requires ongoing attention and investment,” Sheriff Melody Maddox said in a statement. “Situations like this are unfortunate. Our immediate focus is making sure everyone in the facility is safe while getting the repairs made as quickly as possible.”
