LAURENS COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) — A multi-county bus ride turned deadly early Saturday morning.
According to the Laurens County Sheriff's Office, 25-year-old Xavier Puterbaugh of Cincinnati, Oh., was stabbed during an argument with Dexter Smith of Claxton, Ga.
The duo was traveling on a charter bus from Savannah to Atlanta when the argument ensued, and Smith stabbed Puterbaugh on I-16 near mile marker 47, according to Capt. Robbie Toney with the Laurens County Sheriff's Office.

Police and emergency crews responded to the scene and transported Puterbaugh to Fairview Park Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
There were approximately 45 people on the bus at the time of the incident.
Smith has now been charged with murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of or attempt to commit certain crimes, and aggravated assault.
