Description
ATLANTA, Ga. (WALB) - On October 21, 1924, Bill Lowery, who became known as “Mr. Atlanta Music,” was born.
Lowery made his name as a disc jockey, manager, producer and publisher who helped establish the Atlanta music scene in the late 20th century.
Early in his career, Lowery was reportedly encouraged to leave Atlanta for opportunities in Nashville, New York City and Los Angeles, but he stayed loyal to Atlanta, adamant that it would become the music capital of the world.
Throughout his career, Lowery produced countless songs, including hits “I Have But One Goal” and “Young Love.”
In 1979, Lowery was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame alongside Ray Charles.
