NASHVILLE, Ga. (WALB ) — Berrien quarterback Cash Perkins has been named WALB Player of the Week after a season-opening performance in which he scored four touchdowns.
Perkins told his team he would score on the first play of the game. He took the opening snap 71 yards for a touchdown.
“I told my boys I was going to score first play. Coach gave me a chance to get it. I told them I was going to score, and I did. Appreciate my line for blocking for me. They made the holes, and I just took off,” Perkins said.
Perkins scored three more times in the first half, helping the Rebels open the season with a win.
“I told him yesterday, I said, hey, the first play of the game, it’s you carrying the ball. And he said, I’m scoring. And so I said, he held up to his word, which was good. And then he had an incredible first half, and he just did a great job leading that group of offensive guys,” Berrien coach Jackson Dean said.
Perkins finished with more than 200 yards rushing on the day. All four of his touchdowns came on the ground.
