ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — The city of Albany said they plan to start a text message service so that residents can stay updated with the latest city announcements, reports and events.

The service, called “TextMyGov,” will begin in Albany on Thursday, Sept. 3. The city said residents across Albany will get a text from the city with instructions to initiate the service on their device.

Officials said the text will be from 91896. Those who opt-in to the text notifications may choose to stop getting messages at any time by texting “STOP.”

If you don’t get a text message on Sept. 3, the city said you can opt-in yourself by texting “ALBANYGA” to 91896 at any time.

Officials said residents can also request the specific category of text messages they get from the city.
