ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — You might get a text from a new number on Thursday, Sept. 3, as the city of Albany starts a new text messaging service.

The service, called ‘TextMyGov,’ is designed to keep residents informed and up to date about what’s happening around town.

Residents may receive a text from a 91896 number to start the text chain. If you don’t get a text Thursday and would like to, you can start the conversation by texting ‘ALBANYGA’ to that same number.

If you prefer to not receive texts, you can stop them anytime by texting ‘STOP.’

• For major announcements and notifications, text ‘ALBANYGA’ to 91896
• For notifications about events, text ‘ALBANYEVENTS’ to 91896
• For notifications about press releases, text ‘ALBANYPR’ to 91896
