Description
SLYVESTER, Ga. (WALB) - The City of Sylvester is warning residents to be cautious of a new scam following recent storms in the area. Officials report that individuals have been going door-to-door, approaching homes and claiming they are collecting storm debris on behalf of residents and that FEMA will reimburse them for any payments.
City leaders emphasize that this is not legitimate. The City of Sylvester will handle all debris removal from the recent storms and residents do not need to pay anyone for this service.
At this time, the city has not announced an exact date or schedule for debris pickup, and residents are advised to wait for official communication before arranging any cleanup.
Officials urge residents to report any suspicious activity to local authorities and to avoid giving money to anyone claiming to collect debris for FEMA reimbursement.
Stay tuned to WALB and city updates for the official debris collection schedule and guidance on safe storm recovery.
