AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) — Dozens of people attended a birthday party after a mother’s Facebook post asking strangers to celebrate her children went viral weeks ago.

Brieanna Harper hosted a party on Saturday for her son, who turned 3, and her daughter, who turned 10, on November 6.

“Today is a celebration, a birthday party for my son and my daughter,” Harper said. “He turned 3 today, and she turned 10 on the 6th.”

Everything at the party was sponsored, Harper said, meaning she did not have to provide anything.

“This comes from the viral Facebook post of me asking people what they like for their kids and if they are willing to have their kids come out and do a birthday party,” Harper said.

Harper said she felt pressure to follow through after the community response.

“You have a lot of responses, and you cannot let the community down because the community is coming together,” she said. “Everybody who is here are strangers.”

Harper said the party stemmed from a simple Facebook post where she opened up about her family’s life.

“This all stems from having one small Facebook post and me just stepping out on faith and making a post to open up a little bit in my life, our life as a family, just to have our kids have a normal birthday party, basically,” she said.

Harper said she wanted her children to have a normal birthday party because the family spends a lot of time at the hospital.

“So I decided that I still wanted my kids to have a normal birthday party because we do spend a lot of time at the hospital for one of my infants,” she said. “And I just wanted something normal for us to have.”
