ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - With dangerous summer heat impacting South Georgia, the City of Albany and Dougherty County are offering cooling locations where residents can take a break from the heat.

Through Operation Safe Place, several public facilities are available to anyone who needs a cool place to escape the high temperatures.

Where to Cool Down

Albany Transportation Center

📍 300 W. Oglethorpe Boulevard

• Monday–Friday: 6 a.m. – 7 p.m.
• Saturday: 7 a.m. – 2 p.m., unless otherwise notified
• Sunday: Closed, unless otherwise notified

Dougherty County Public Library Central Branch

📍 300 Pine Avenue

• Monday–Wednesday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
• Thursday & Friday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
• Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
• Sunday: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Northwest Library Branch

📍 2507 Dawson Road

• Monday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
• Tuesday & Wednesday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
• Thursday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
• Friday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Southside Library Branch

Residents are encouraged to take extreme heat seriously, stay hydrated and limit time outdoors during the hottest parts of the day. A cooling center can provide a safe, air-conditioned place to rest and cool down when temperatures become dangerous.
