Description

CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) – The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a $27,014.40 High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), aimed at improving road safety and reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities across Georgia.

Funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the grant supports proactive and visible law enforcement efforts targeting dangerous driving behaviors. These include impaired and distracted driving, speeding, and seatbelt violations. The initiative also incorporates public awareness campaigns to encourage voluntary compliance with traffic laws.

“Enforcement and education are two of the most effective tools in reducing preventable traffic crashes and saving lives,” said Allen Poole, Director of GOHS. “This grant represents an important step in protecting Georgia drivers.”

Sheriff Billy Hancock expressed gratitude for the funding, noting that the grant will enhance public safety efforts without burdening local taxpayers. “We are grateful to be selected for this grant. It will help provide vital resources to keep Georgia roads safe,” Hancock said.

As part of its partnership with GOHS, the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office will participate in statewide campaigns like Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket, including high-visibility patrols and sobriety checkpoints.

The grant funding is set to continue through September 2026.
