DAWSON, Ga. (WALB) - The City of Dawson is reminding business owners and operators of a city ordinance involving curfew hours.

The Ordinance

According to the Dawson Police Department (DPD), it is unlawful for owners or operators of public establishments to “knowingly allow unaccompanied minors to remain on their premises during curfew hours.” Leaders say this is listed under Sec. 14-13 of the City of Dawson Ordinance.

City leaders say curfew hours are from 10:59 p.m. to 6 a.m. every night, Sunday through Thursday, and apply to anyone under the age of 17. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

In a Facebook post, DPD said business operators legally have a duty to remove minors found on their premises or notify authorities. DPD said business owners, operators, or employees who knowingly permit minors to loiter or remain past the hours are guilty of a misdemeanor offense.

Penalties

The post stated that failure to enforce the curfew hours can result in misdemeanor charges and fines. Fines will increase with each subsequent offense.

In 2025, the city amended its curfew from 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, to the curfew now in place.

Leaders say curfew is the law, so enforce it!
