ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — The dead fish and foul smell are no longer present at Radium Springs, according to the Dougherty County Georgia Government.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) advised earlier in the week that the county should let the fish naturally decompose.

“Earlier this week, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources advised the County to leave the fish in place and allow the natural decomposition process to take its course. DNR explained that bacteria, turtles, birds and other wildlife would naturally break down and consume the fish as part of the ecosystem.”

“The dead fish are gone and there is no foul smell,” said Director Chuck Mathis, Public Works. He went on to say, “The water is very low, but DNR was correct when they said nature would take care of it.”
