BACONTON, Ga. (WALB) - As families celebrate Mother’s Day, one Baconton mother is celebrating the opening of her dream, years in the making.

Mama Pleazzz officially opened its doors Sunday, May 10, bringing soul food, a family atmosphere and a heartfelt community space to the small town.

Owner Alfreda Shelton said the unique name comes straight from a moment at home with her daughter. Shelton said that she decided against cooking one night, and her daughter asked sweetly for Shelton’s homemade cooking, saying, “Mama, please!” That’s when Shelton knew what she would call her restaurant.

Shelton said the business is rooted in family—inspired by moments like that—and built around bringing people together over food. She said opening the restaurant has been a lifelong dream, one that finally became reality at 54 years old, with the community showing strong support during the Mother’s Day opening celebration.

“I’m trying to hold it together now without busting in tears. But it’s just—It’s so much love from the community and from the friends. I’m just overwhelmed. I always wanted this ever since I was a small girl. This was a dream that I always wanted. And at 54, dreams do come true,” Shelton said.

Shelton said she wants customers to leave feeling better than when they walked in.

In addition to classic soul food, the restaurant also offers vegan menu options, helping ensure everyone in the community can find something to enjoy.
