GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — A concerned Grady County Citizen is being praised after they got a drunk driver off the road and kept a child safe from potential harm.

At 11:00 a.m. on June 16, 2026, a concerned citizen called 911 to report a reckless driver on Highway 84 East.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop after they found the vehicle driving recklessly. The Grady County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) said the driver was three times over the legal limit for alcohol consumption. Deputies also found an unrestrained child in the vehicle.

The child was safely released to family members. The Driver was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence.

“This incident serves as a powerful reminder that public safety is a shared responsibility. When citizens are willing to report suspicious or dangerous activity, it helps law enforcement respond quickly, prevent tragedies, and protect innocent lives.”

The GCSO thanked the Decatur/Grady 911 for their real-time communication that played a vital role in letting deputies respond quickly to the situation.
