CAIRO, Ga. (WALB) — The Cairo Police Department (CPD) has arrested five people following a monthlong narcotics investigation.

The investigation led to the execution of warrants on Wednesday, March 4. The warrants were served in the 700 block of 8th Street Northwest and the 1300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue Southwest, near Washington Middle School.

According to CPD, investigators recovered about nine ounces of cocaine, roughly four pounds of marijuana, MDMA (ecstasy) pills, oxycodone pills and additional evidence consistent with drug distribution. The narcotics reportedly have an estimated street value of $15,000.

“I want to take a moment to commend the dedicated work of our investigators and the officers who supported this operation,” said Chief Giovannie Santos. “Their commitment, patience and attention to detail over the course of this investigation led to the safe execution of these search warrants and the removal of dangerous narcotics and firearms from our community.”

Santos added that the department remains committed to addressing drug activity that threatens neighborhood safety and quality of life.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Bainbridge Public Safety, Grady County Sheriff’s Office and Thomas County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
