TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - Three staff members at Tifton Monument company were arrested after dozens of families said they never received their headstones or monument orders. The staff members are now out on bond.
Father and son Fred and Cam Eaton and their secretary, Amanda Aubrey, who are facing over 100 felony and misdemeanor charges, were indicted in July, then released on bond. Their bond agreements were finalized July 31.
Emmett Tony Fred Eaton’s bond was set at $250,000. As a condition of his bond agreement, he’s not allowed to contact any victims in the case, unless he’s performing, finalizing or completing an existing monument order at the victim’s request.
Emmett Cameraon “Cam” Eaton’s bond was set at $250,000, and he can only install monuments, not sell them.
Amanda Aubrey’s bond was set at $75,000, and she is not allowed to work in the funeral, monument or burial business.
One person, who purchased a monument from the Eatons over three years ago, said they are still waiting for their order to be fulfilled. They said they did not know there was a problem with the monument business until they heard chatter around town. They wanted to keep their identity anonymous.
“We really couldn’t believe it at first, until we heard other people coming forward,” they said. “Since we paid in full, and our granite isn’t ready at one of the granite companies, we would just like our money back and just start over.”
The Eatons no longer take care of Tift Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum, which is a cemetery in Tifton. It is unclear whether or not orders are actually being fulfilled and installed.
An arraignment for the three staff members will be on Aug. 21.
