Description
ALBANY, GA (WALB) — A cold front moving through Friday night will bring gusty winds and dry conditions through the weekend. Warmer weather returns early next week.
What to Expect This Weekend
As a dry cold front moves through Friday night into Saturday, gusty NW winds are expected with gusts exceeding 20 mph.
Tonight and Saturday Morning: Overnight lows drop to seasonal upper 30s low 40s.
Saturday Daytime: Highs will be cooler than Friday, upper 50s low 60s across SGA. Winds gradually slack off Saturday afternoon and should subside shortly after sunset.
Sunday Daytime: Starts out cold and frosty lows upper 20s low 30s then sunny with a SW wind and highs upper 50s low 60s.
Fire Danger Alert for Georgia
Saturday will bring elevated fire danger conditions across most of the state due to very low relative humidity. Relative humidity values will plunge to the teens and mid-20s Saturday afternoon. Combined with gusty northwest winds, conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread. Avoid burning and be cautious with any outdoor activities involving heat or flame.
Looking Ahead to Next Week
The good news: warmer weather is on the way. Expect an early taste of spring next week as highs run 6 to 14° above seasonal averages. Highs will climb into the upper 60s and even low-mid 70s while lows remain above freezing and above average in the 40s and 50s. Those spring-like conditions will keep winter as a distant memory.
Dry conditions continue through most of next week, with only a slight chance of light showers possible Wednesday and Thursday as an upper-level system moves through. No significant rain is expected over the next seven days.
What You Should Do
- Secure loose outdoor items that could blow away in the gusty winds
- Avoid outdoor burning Saturday due to fire danger
- Bundle up if you’re heading out Friday night or Saturday morning, especially in Georgia where wind chills will be in the 30s
- Plan outdoor activities for Sunday and beyond when winds subside and milder air moves in
