Description
WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump hit the ground running in his second term, wasting no time implementing key campaign promises. In just 100 days, he's leaned heavily on executive power to deliver on high-profile issues, especially when it comes to immigration and economic policy.
What He’s Delivered
Immigration enforcement tops the list.
Trump’s most visible actions so far have come in the immigration arena. The president has ordered mass deportations and dramatically tightened border enforcement. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, daily border encounters are down 93%, encounters with “gotaways”—who CBP labels as the top threat to public safety—are down 95%, and migrant crossings overall are nearly zero.
Economic Moves and Deregulation
On the economic front, Trump has introduced a new round of tariffs on imports and launched the Department of Government Efficiency led by Elon Musk. The administration claims this move has already saved taxpayers billions. Additionally, Trump declared a national energy emergency to ramp up oil drilling and rolled back numerous environmental regulations. He also eliminated Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs across the federal government, another key campaign promise.
What’s Still Missing
Ukraine War Resolution? Not Yet.
Trump repeatedly said on the campaign trail that he would end the Russia-Ukraine war "in 24 hours." But that hasn’t materialized. In a recent interview with Time Magazine, Trump appeared to walk back the claim, saying it was made “in jest.” While he still argues he can help broker a peace deal, the conflict remains unresolved.
Tax Cuts Still in Limbo
Another major promise, sweeping tax cuts for the middle class, has yet to be fulfilled. As U.S. News and World Report notes while Congress has passed a budget blueprint that includes provisions to extend current tax cuts, no final legislation has been approved. Further complicating things: passing those cuts may require slashing major programs like Medicaid, something that even some Republicans are hesitant to support.
The Bottom Line
In his first 100 days, Trump has delivered fast and hard on immigration and regulatory rollbacks, but major legislative goals like tax reform and foreign policy breakthroughs are still works in progress. Whether those promises can be fulfilled in the months ahead may depend less on executive action and more on navigating a divided Congress.
