Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - WALB is partnering with Feeding the Valley for a PB&J Food Drive to help families who may need extra assistance while school is out for the summer.

This week, we’ll spotlight how summer camp organizations benefit from Feeding the Valley’s food and monetary donations. According to Feeding America, more than 500,000 children in Georgia are food insecure, and nearly 16 million children face hunger in the United States today.

On WALB’s ‘The Rundown,’ Quinlan Parker talked with Marlissa Clark with The ARC of Southwest Georgia. The center provides early intervention services for all children.

Kids’ Corner relies on the food and donations from Feeding the Valley. Before Marlissa took the role as director, the food was solely for parents. In addition to taking that barrier off of parents, ARC is also able to introduce the kids to new food options.

”As we know, food prices are skyrocketing. And these children, like you said, go on these breaks, and we don’t know sometimes where kids’ meals are coming from. So, we wanted to make sure we are offering them something throughout the day that was not solely reliable on the parent,” said Clark.

The PB&J Food Drive will be held Friday, May 16 at Feeding the Valley Albany Distribution Center at 1706 Ledo Road from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

You can donate peanut butter and jelly, instant macaroni and cheese and other non-perishable food items. Cash donations will also be accepted.
