TONIGHT: Storms and Showers should ease by sunset for most. Clouds will work to clear some heading into the overnight, hopefully they do so in time for the Perseid Meteor Shower, which is peaking tonight.

Tips to see a shooting star:

• get away from cities (light pollution makes the meteor shower harder to see)
• let your eyes acclimate to the night sky for 20-30 minutes (that means no phone screens!)
• look broadly at the night sky, not just in one place (meteors will likely streak across the sky)

THURSDAY: A Heat Advisory is in effect for all of South Georgia from Noon until 8pm for heat indices ranging from 105-110°.

High temperatures will once again reach into the mid-upper 90s, with spotty areas seeing heat relief in the afternoon from storms. A few storms will have the potential to be strong, but they will be brief if they do happen.

FRIDAY - WEEKEND: We keep the scattered storm chances in the forecast heading through the weekend. Not everyone will get wet each day, but everyone will absolutely get very hot. Temperatures will linger in the upper 90s with max heat indices around 110°. Heat Advisories will likely be in place everyday.

MONDAY - NEXT WEDNESDAY: First Alert Weather Days are declared for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, as temperatures look to climb to near record daily highs (records range from 101° - 103°). Triple digits temperatures are expected in South Georgia on all three days with heat indices potentially topping 110°. Heat advisories and even extreme heat warnings are expected to be issued.

Stay Safe in the intense summer heat:

• Reduce your time outside. If you have to be outside, wear light colored and breathable clothing.
• Stay hydrated all the time.
• Take plenty of breaks when working outside. High heat and humidity can exhaust you much faster than normal. Be aware of signs for heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

TROPICS:

• Tropical Storm Cristobal formed quickly this morning in the middle of the northern Atlantic, and it will likely fall apart quickly starting Thursday as it runs into cooler waters.
• INVEST 92L is meandering in the tropical Atlantic with its sights set on the Lesser Antilles, and potentially Puerto Rico this weekend and early next week. Most models depict INVEST 92L reaching tropical storm status and taking the name Dolly, within the next two days. Rainfall totals could range from 2-4″ across the Lesser Antilles and even in Puerto Rico, which is desperately needed due to the drought in Puerto Rico.
• INVEST 94L is another tropical wave right behind INVEST 92L, which has growing odds for development by the end of the week. The track seems similar to INVEST 92L, it is expected to move towards the Lesser Antilles through the week.
