TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) — Two women are facing felony charges after a group reportedly attacked a teenager and her friend in a parking lot at a Tifton apartment complex. A Tifton mother said she watched it on video.

CELLPHONE VIDEO:

The attack happened Aug. 3 at Crescent Ridge Apartments, according to the Tift County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO).

WALB obtained video of the incident, which is also circulating online. It appears to show a group of roughly five people surrounding a white car and attacking two young women inside.

Brittney Dixon, the mother of a 17-year-old victim who turned 18 after the incident, said her daughter only knew one of the attackers.

“I was at work when my daughter called,” Dixon said. “She said, ‘Mom, are you close to the hospital?’ I said, ‘No, I’m not.’ She said, ‘I’ll call you back.’ Well, then a nurse called me needing consent because her head was busted open for them to treat her head.”

Both victims in the car, who were reportedly friends, suffered serious injuries, according to TCSO’s incident report.

“She had gashes all in the back of her head. Her body was badly bruised,” the mom described. “As a mother, it just breaks your heart to know your kid went through that.”

The sheriff’s office arrested 31-year-old Chakiea Monicea Garrison and 19-year-old Veronica Rodriguez. Each faces two counts of felony aggravated battery.

As for what sparked the confrontation, investigators said they cannot comment on a possible motive since it is an active investigation.

“They were supposed to be going to meet up with Veronica and hang out with some friends,” Dixon explained. “And when they got there, it just kind of, everybody came out of nowhere. They did not know one bit that was fixing to happen to them.”

The sheriff’s office said both suspects remain in the Tift County jail.

A representative for Crescent Ridge Apartments tells WALB they are aware of the incident but have no further comment.
