FITZGERALD, Ga. (WALB) - On Sunday, Feb. 11, Fitzgerald Church of God opened its doors to the community for the first time since the fire on Sunday, Feb. 3.

“God is so good and I can’t wait to see what He is going to do. We are going to come out better than what we ever were before,” Dewain Joiner, Pastor of Fitzgerald Church of God, said.
The pastor’s message was for everyone to be united and have a place to call home. The pastor said the fire did not stop the change they are creating in the community.
“Good fellow shipping it’s a really good community and it’s a small community so everybody knows everybody. So God can move in mighty ways,” Christian Reese, church member, said.
Fitzgerald Church of God did not have as much damage as some of the surrounding churches that caught fire. Church leaders say it’s important to praise God even in the midst of adversity.
“Sometimes you just have to praise him through the storm and sometimes things don’t always go the way you want to. He is our way maker and He is our miracle worker, and He is there to help us through those seasons of difficulty that are coming,” Lorne Crabtree, worship pastor, said.
Sunday’s turnout was full as people were starting to connect again in a new space.
“A lot of times when you get to a displaced from somewhere it takes a little bit for people to get comfortable, but there was no lapse in comfort this morning. Everybody just came in and was ready to worship and we had a great day,” Caleb Powell, youth pastor, said.
“This morning’s desire and drive was based on the encouragement of the leadership. They are awesome and re-adjusting and reforming to the needs of the members,” Eliu Chape, church member, said.
The church will continue normal operations from the second building until the main building has been fully restored.
